At Harvard, Students’ Muslim Traditions Are a Topic of Debate

When I think of Muslim Women I usually think of them wearing the traditional clothes of their religion. so I believe that it was a good idea for Harvard to allow different gym hours for women and men. I think that it is a good and bad thing to do because the muslim women get to work out in the gym in the privacy of being in a women only facility. But their have been a few complaints to this new policy, people have said that the women get the peak gym hours and women are not coming the gym is just sitting almost empty. Also some of the upperclassmen are feeling annoyed because their main and best gym is being let to the other gender and they have no input, in the situation. I think that it was idea to give the women different gym hours away from men to respect the muslim traditions, but their should have done it a little different to comply with everyone.

Climate of Change

The elections are finally over and we have a new president in office. President Obama is the first African American President. I think that these next 4 years are going to be full of change with a new Democratic President in office and a new face for our country. With a new President we get new promises to be upheld. Like pulling us out of Iraq, and giving people better rights. I hope that with our new President we have a whole new change for this country, and i know some people are angry that the person who they wanted to be president didnt get chosen but they have to deal with this new political office and hope for the best. That is what i am doing now because our last President did his best but his best wasn't his best to provide for our country. I believe that in this day and age that with new leadership that we can change for the better and make your country better.

Vitamin Pills: A False Hope?

So for this blog post I had to read about an article about hope, so I looked at the NY Times and found this article about false hope in vitamins. In this article they talked about how americans spend so much money on dietary supplements that do not always work, and people say that taking vitamins will help reduce this and that, but in recent tests the finding are that vitamins are not doing much at all. It has also been told that your body needs those essential nutrients that you would normally not get in your average meal, so vitamins would help but not all the hype that has been told about them like being able to stop or prevent cancer or other major health issues. So all I have to say is that vitamins will help with the running of your body, but it will not prevent some of the huge health risks.

How India Reconciles Hindu Values and Biotech

So for this blog post I read the article from the New York Times, and it showed the people who follow the Hindu religion believe the life begins at conception. In their religion they believe that fetuses can hear and understand everything that is going on around them. I think that it is very interesting that they believe a story that has been told about Arjuna and he told his wife about his seven stage military plan while she was listening to everything the fetus was also listening to the story, the sad part is when the mother falls asleep during the 7th and final stage to his plan, so when the child was older he was in battle and didn't know that last stage in battle and dies. I thin that the Hindu Religion is very interesting to learn about because it is like Christianity but also so different.

Gender Roles

Well for this weeks blog we had to write about gender specefic roles. I didnt really get the topics so I looked it up on Wikepedia. the article was very helpful in telling me about the issues in gender roles. I found out that a gender role is a role that is specified to one specefic gender. I thought that it was very inciteful because they really showed that how back in the day gender roles were really highly used. you would have been told that dad goes to work all day long and mom would be doing the laundry and cleaning the house all day. I am so glad that in these days the workplace is now accepting to allowing new poeple into their work envoronment.

French Museums Free for Under-25

If you have ever been to France or even Europe you know that the arts there are amazing, but with the great arts comes a price, the fee to get in to some of the museums is crazy if you think about it, it works out because of the prices of some of theses masterpieces. But due to a new plan by the French President he is allowing all people under the age of 25 to be able to enter all museums for free. I think that this plan is amazing because the art lovers are becoming younger and younger. I wish that here in america the museums are free or at least at a discount because when you are young you dont always have the money to be able to go to these great museums!

Cancer Survivors Struggle to Find Jobs, Study Finds

I believe that this article shows how hard some people have it after they have had to face such a terrible disease, that have already gone through so much and now that have to face the hardships at finding a new job. After they have spent so much money on getting the treatments that they need to survive they have to deal with not being able to find a job to pay the bills. I think that the situation that some of these people have to go through is terrible because that have already been through so much and now they cant even find a job. Now people who cant get a job either get major amounts of debt, or have to declare for bankruptcy.

Remote and Struggling, but Still a Bit of America

So for this blog on a natural disaster I read an article about a small town in Alsaka. In Alaska it is really hard to get around because of the high mountains, and the large land area. The people in this small village are all couped up and new people rarely visit them. The tradegy that hit this small town is people are leaving becasue the prices are so much more because the cost of bringing the essential items to their towns is so high. The people of these small towns are having troubles because the future popululation of their towns are more intersted with the newest ipod thant the well being of their town.
